What’s a good knitting or crocheting project I can take with me to camp?

Camp is 2 weeks long and I want a good knitting or crocheting (I can do them both well) project I can take with me and work on. I have plenty of yarn. Nothing requiring DPNs or multiple needles, I don’t want to lose one.
I also will need a free pattern link
I’d be able to work for about 1 1/2 hours on it each day.

Is it necessary to follow the recommended knitting needle size on yarn?

I brought some knitting yarn and it suggests that I use a size 13 (9mm) knitting needles. I am knitting a hat. Do I have to follow this recommendation? If I used a size 7 would this not work? Why?

Later Richard Arkwright, operated the machine by horsepower. Nottingham produced cotton stockings, Derby used silk and Leicester used wool.
